Alien Television Show: Alien: Earth Lands on FX in 2025
The Alien franchise is expanding to television with a new series titled Alien: Earth, set to premiere in 2025. Following the success of the Predator prequel movie Prey and the latest Alien film, Alien: Romulus, Disney and 20th Century Studios are developing more projects based on these popular science fiction franchises.
Alien: Romulus bridges the gap between the first two Alien films, taking place in the distant future far from Earth. In contrast, Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth will bring the Xenomorph threat to our planet. This concept was initially considered for Alien 3 and explored in the Alien vs. Predator films. However, Alien: Earth aims to honor the core elements of the Alien franchise while offering a fresh perspective and continuing the commentary on artificial intelligence initiated in Ridley Scott’s prequel films.
The release window for Alien: Earth is currently 2025, as confirmed by a recent teaser trailer. Series creator Noah Hawley confirmed the completion of principal photography in July 2024, stating that the show is currently in post-production, with extensive visual effects work underway.
Alien: Earth will be an FX original series, also available on Hulu in the United States. International distribution is expected through Disney+ or Star, depending on the region.
While specific plot details remain scarce, it’s confirmed that the series will be set on Earth in the near future. Leaks suggest a deep exploration of synthetic beings and artificial intelligence within the Alien universe, examining the blurring lines between human and artificial life. Hawley intends to expand upon the classic Alien premise by heightening the immediate stakes of a Xenomorph outbreak on Earth.
The series will also delve into the complex relationship between the working class and powerful corporations, a recurring theme in the Alien films, but with a potentially more in-depth analysis due to the extended runtime of a television series. Currently, there are no known connections between Alien: Earth and Alien: Romulus. FX is optimistic about the series, with plans for at least two seasons.
Potential character details suggest the protagonist will be Wendy, a unique hybrid “meta-human” combining an adult body with a child’s consciousness, mentored by a synth named Kirsh and a human scientist. Another key character is “Hermit,” a young medic working for a corporation’s private military.
Two teasers have been released: a brief glimpse included in a Disney+ 2025 preview and a short trailer showcasing the Xenomorph’s arrival on Earth from the creature’s perspective.
The cast of Alien: Earth includes Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, Timothy Olyphant, Samuel Blenkin, Kit Young, Adarsh Gourav, Erana James, and David Rysdahl.
Noah Hawley is the creator, showrunner, director, and writer for the series, with Ridley Scott executive producing. Dana Gonzales is the cinematographer, and Andy Nicholson leads production design.
