The new television series, “The NYC Field Guide: How to Thrive in the Five,” offers New Yorkers essential tips and insights on navigating life in the city’s five boroughs. Hosted by Emmy-award winner Micaéla Birmingham, the 13-episode series features 30-minute episodes packed with advice, hacks, and expert information from celebrities, residents, and city officials. The show premieres on Wednesday, June 26th at 8 PM on NYC Life (WNYE-TV), the city’s award-winning lifestyle channel.

“The NYC Field Guide” aims to provide a comprehensive cheat sheet for successfully navigating the complexities of New York City life. The series highlights the work of various city agencies and the 300,000 employees who keep the city running. From walking and dining to riding the subway and enjoying the outdoors, the show covers a wide range of topics relevant to New Yorkers.

The show promises to showcase the limitless spirit of the city by offering practical advice on how to “hack” it like a pro. Each episode features engaging segments with experts and personalities who share their insights and experiences. The first three episodes focus on essential aspects of city life: walking, dining out, and riding the subway.

The “Walking” episode features Bob’s Dance Shop, a renowned local dance group, demonstrating a flash mob. It also includes insights from the Department of Transportation on pedestrian safety. “Dining Out” features comedian Roy Wood Jr. sharing his late-night restaurant recommendations and celebrity chef David Burke offering tipping advice. The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene will discuss restaurant inspection grades.

The “Riding the Subway” episode provides tips on subway safety from NYPD Transit Chief Michael Kemper. Viewers will learn strategies for standing on the platform for optimal boarding and humorous public service announcements about passenger etiquette. Future episodes will explore topics such as enjoying the city’s waterways, navigating the aging process in New York, attending school, and starting a business.

The series features a diverse range of city agencies and employees, including representatives from the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Department of Environmental Protection, the Department of Finance, the Taxi & Limousine Commission, and the NYPD. “The NYC Field Guide: How to Thrive in the Five” is a collaboration between the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment and Next Millennium Productions (NMP), a minority and woman-owned production company. The show aims to provide valuable information and entertainment to New Yorkers of all backgrounds and experiences. The show’s creators and participants emphasize the importance of community, safety, and resourcefulness in thriving within the dynamic environment of New York City.
