CW Television Station Expansion: KOMO-TV Seattle and WPNT-TV Pittsburgh Join the Network

by

The CW Network expands its reach with the addition of two new affiliate stations: KOMO-TV in Seattle and WPNT-TV in Pittsburgh. This strategic move strengthens The CW’s presence in key markets and enhances its programming distribution.

Sinclair Broadcast Group, a major partner of The CW, facilitated this expansion through a multi-year agreement that renews affiliations across 35 markets. This agreement underscores the enduring relationship between The CW and Sinclair, further solidifying their commitment to delivering high-quality content to viewers nationwide. Starting September 1st, both KOMO-TV and WPNT-TV, currently broadcasting LIV Golf, will expand their programming to include the entire CW lineup. This addition provides viewers in Seattle and Pittsburgh with access to The CW’s popular entertainment and sports programming.

CW Television Station Affiliations Strengthened Through Multi-Year Agreement

The multi-year renewal agreement between The CW and Sinclair encompasses 35 markets, including 10 where Sinclair provides sales and operational support to CW affiliates. This broad-reaching partnership reinforces The CW’s national footprint and ensures consistent delivery of its programming across diverse regions. Dennis Miller, President of The CW Network, emphasized the significance of these new affiliations, especially with the upcoming ACC college football game featuring the Pittsburgh Panthers and the Cincinnati Bearcats on September 9th. He highlighted the value Sinclair places on their partnership and The CW’s commitment to investing in sports and entertainment programming to expand viewership.

Expanding Reach and Programming Diversity with New CW Television Stations

The inclusion of KOMO-TV and WPNT-TV in The CW’s affiliate network brings significant benefits to both viewers and the network. Viewers in Seattle and Pittsburgh gain access to a wider range of entertainment and sports content, including popular CW shows and live sporting events. This expansion also allows The CW to reach a broader audience and solidify its position as a leading entertainment and sports broadcaster. Rob Weisbord, Sinclair’s COO and President of Local Media, expressed enthusiasm for the continued partnership with The CW and welcoming the Seattle and Pittsburgh stations into the network. The agreement also includes rights for Sinclair to negotiate with virtual MVPDs for CW-affiliated stations, further expanding distribution options.
