Disney TV Writers Program 2024: How to Apply

by

Applicants for the 2024 Disney Television Writers Program must be legally eligible to work in the U.S. and 21 years old by December 1, 2024. Prior entertainment experience is helpful but not required. The application includes seven components (eight if applying for the Boone Scholarship or the FX John Singleton Scholars Initiative, but not both).

The core of the application is Script One: Original Pilot Script. This live-action script showcases the writer’s voice, style, and perspective. Animation samples are not accepted. The script should align with Disney Television (DET) programming. This script cannot be changed after submission and must be unique to this application cycle.

A corresponding Exhibit “A”: Script One Summary Form is also required.

Script Two: Secondary Original Pilot Script is also required, following the same live-action format and guidelines as Script One. This sample may have been submitted previously and will retain its prior score.

This secondary script also requires an Exhibit “B”: Script Two Summary Form.

A concise Resume (maximum two pages) of paid work experience is required. Include both entertainment and non-entertainment roles, excluding unpaid work except for entertainment internships and full-time non-profit volunteer positions. Include relevant courses or training, but omit undergraduate coursework.

A Staffing Pitch (1500 characters maximum) is crucial. This pitch positions applicants as potential staff writers for a returning 2024-25 DET series. Demonstrate understanding of DET programming and the specific show you’re targeting. Explain why you’re a good fit, highlighting connections (character, theme, storyline, etc.), and your unique contributions. Focus on your fit, not just admiration for the show.

A Personal Essay (3000 characters maximum) provides insight into your unique perspective and/or multicultural sensibility through a personal narrative.

Optional components include pitches for the Disney Branded Television (“DBT”) Eunetta T. Boone Scholarship and the FX John Singleton Scholars Initiative. The Boone Scholarship, for comedy writers, requires a 1500-character essay detailing your familiarity with Eunetta T. Boone’s work, your connection to her shows, and how you would honor her legacy at Disney Channel.

The Singleton Scholars Initiative, for aspiring FX Networks writers, requires a 1500-character essay outlining your knowledge of John Singleton’s work, your connection to his projects, and why you’re a strong candidate for an FX writers’ room. This offers opportunities for writers targeting Disney television content in 2024.
