The Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton frequently hosts Hollywood film crews. Home to the 1st Marine Division, the base attracts filmmakers seeking authentic military settings just a 90-mile drive from Hollywood.

Light drizzle fell on Sgt. Clinton Lehner, a 1st Marine Division crew chief, as a UH-1Y Venom and an AH-1 Cobra helicopters flew above Camp Pendleton. The aircraft performed flight simulations for the “SEAL Team” camera crew to film dynamic footage.

The “SEAL Team” crew filmed at Camp Pendleton for two days, capturing footage of aviation assets and a Marine squad disembarking from an MV-22 Osprey to establish a defensive perimeter, showcasing realistic military operations.

Camp Pendleton has hosted numerous television shows and blockbuster movies seeking to portray the authenticity and history of the U.S. Marine Corps, including films like “Battle Los Angeles” and “Heartbreak Ridge.”

Camp Pendleton has also hosted historical reenactments, such as the Iwo Jima flag raising and the Tarawa landing, originally filmed in 1949 for “Sands of Iwo Jima,” leveraging the base’s terrain and historical significance.

“SEAL Team,” a CBS television drama starring David Boreanaz, follows the lives of a Navy SEAL team. The show’s commitment to realism is evident in its filming location choice.

Alan Jacoby, “SEAL Team” director of photography, emphasized the importance of collaborating with the 1st Marine Division. Access to Ospreys, Hueys, and other military equipment enhances the show’s production value. The partnership provides unparalleled realism. Jacoby expressed enthusiasm for continued collaboration.
