Watch the 2024 DNC: Day 3 Schedule & How to Stream
Following two electrifying days at the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, day three promises to be pivotal. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate, is expected to accept the Democratic nomination. Anticipated speakers include former President Bill Clinton, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
The convention continues amidst heightened security and numerous street closures surrounding the United Center, McCormick Place, and the Gold Coast neighborhood. While no permitted protests are planned for Wednesday, unsanctioned demonstrations remain possible.
Building on powerful speeches from former President Barack Obama, former First Lady Michelle Obama, and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker on Tuesday, the convention spotlight shifts to Walz. The former teacher and football coach will address the nation as Democrats underscore the perceived threats to fundamental freedoms should Donald Trump return to the presidency. Former Trump press secretary Stephanie Grisham also spoke Tuesday, offering a critical insider perspective.
The official day three schedule, including a complete speaker list, is expected later today. However, doors at the United Center open at 4 p.m. CT, with the main program beginning at 5:30 p.m. CT. The day’s theme, “A fight for our freedoms,” will highlight Democratic efforts to protect rights they believe have been eroded under Republican leadership, including reproductive rights.
Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to formally accept the Democratic presidential nomination on Thursday, the convention’s final day. The convention runs for four days, from August 19th to August 22nd, with speeches each evening.
The convention is being held at two primary locations: the United Center, hosting main speeches and voting, and McCormick Place, hosting caucus and council meetings throughout the week.
All convention sessions will be livestreamed on the NBC Chicago website and mobile app, as well as on the NBC 5 Chicago News 24/7 Streaming Channel. Expanded coverage will also be available via Telemundo Chicago. The remaining streaming times (Central Time) are 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on both Wednesday and Thursday.
Security remains paramount, with over a dozen law enforcement agencies, including the Chicago Police Department, FBI, and Secret Service, working collaboratively to ensure safety. Approximately 150 members of the Illinois National Guard are on standby for assistance. Numerous street closures are in effect throughout the city, particularly in the downtown and Gold Coast areas, impacting traffic and accessibility. A full list of closures is available from the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications.
Tickets to the DNC are not available to the general public. Attendance is restricted to credentialed delegates, media, and invited guests. While volunteer opportunities were initially available, applications are now closed due to overwhelming response.
