Alien: Earth Lands on FX in 2025

The Alien franchise expands to television with Alien: Earth, premiering on FX in 2025. Following the success of Prey and Alien: Romulus, Disney and 20th Century Studios are developing more projects in these popular sci-fi universes.

Alien: Romulus bridges the gap between the first two Alien films. In contrast, Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth brings Xenomorphs to our planet, a concept previously considered for Alien 3 and explored in the Alien vs. Predator films. Alien: Earth honors the franchise’s core while offering a fresh perspective and continuing the AI commentary from Ridley Scott’s prequels.

The 2025 release window for Alien: Earth was confirmed in a recent teaser trailer. Hawley confirmed principal photography wrapped in July 2024, with the show now in post-production, focusing on extensive visual effects.

Alien: Earth will be an FX original series, also streaming on Hulu in the US. International distribution is expected on Disney+ or Star.

Plot details are scarce, but the series is set on Earth in the near future. Leaks suggest a deep exploration of synthetics and AI within the Alien universe, examining the blurring lines between human and artificial life. Hawley aims to heighten the stakes of a Xenomorph outbreak on Earth.

The series will also explore the complex relationship between the working class and corporations, a recurring theme in the films, but with potentially more in-depth analysis. Currently, there are no known connections between Alien: Earth and Alien: Romulus. FX is optimistic, planning for at least two seasons.

The protagonist is reportedly Wendy, a “meta-human” combining an adult body with a child’s mind, mentored by a synth named Kirsh and a human scientist. Another key character is “Hermit,” a young medic working for a corporation’s private military.

Two teasers have been released: one in a Disney+ 2025 preview and a short trailer showcasing the Xenomorph’s arrival on Earth from its perspective.

The cast includes Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, Timothy Olyphant, Samuel Blenkin, Kit Young, Adarsh Gourav, Erana James, and David Rysdahl.

Noah Hawley is the creator, showrunner, director, and writer, with Ridley Scott executive producing. Dana Gonzales is the cinematographer, and Andy Nicholson leads production design.
