Hart of Dixie Pilot: Filming Locations in North Carolina
The fictional town of Bluebell, Alabama, in “Hart of Dixie,” came to life in Southport and Wilmington, North Carolina, for the pilot episode. Before settling into a studio, the show captured the Southern charm of these towns for Zoe Hart’s introduction to small-town living.
One of the first scenes, Zoe’s graduation, was filmed at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, showcasing Hoggard Hall. This establishes Zoe’s ambitious beginnings.
Bluebell’s memorable entrance, often seen on postcards, is the 6th Avenue North bridge in Wilmington, viewed from 5th Avenue North. Though construction has changed the area, the bridge remains recognizable.
George dropping Zoe off in Bluebell’s town square was filmed on Southport’s Main Street, in front of The State Port Pilot. The architecture remains largely unchanged.
Harley Wilkes’ medical practice is a Victorian home at 308 South 2nd Street in Wilmington. The prominent tree in the front yard remains a key feature.
Zoe and Emmeline’s lunch scene was filmed at Southport Coffee Co. & Kitchen. While updated, the building’s original architecture is still discernible.
The park where Zoe meets Lemon during a Belles rehearsal is Franklin Square Park in Southport, featuring its unique twin gazebo.
Lavon Hayes’ mansion was filmed at 2609 Shandy Lane in Wilmington. The white columns and mature trees establish his prominent standing.
The oak-lined alley where Lavon leads Zoe to her new home is believed to be Pleasant Oaks Plantation, next to Orton Plantation.
The Dixie Stop, where Zoe buys wine, was portrayed by The Village Market in Wilmington. Both exterior and interior shots were filmed there.
The scene where Emmeline reveals Harley’s paternity was filmed at the same Victorian home used for Harley’s practice on South 2nd Street.
