Juana la Virgen Televisa: A New Mexican Take on a Classic

by

The Venezuelan telenovela Juana la virgen, a massive success in 2002 starring Daniela Alvarado and Ricardo Álamo, which later inspired the 2014 American TV series starring Gina Rodríguez, is getting a fresh Mexican adaptation in 2024. W Studios will produce this new rendition of the beloved story for TelevisaUnivision, centering on a charming young woman who becomes pregnant accidentally through artificial insemination.

Camila Valero Steps into the Lead Role of Juana la Virgen Televisa

Production officially commenced on Tuesday in Mexico, with Mexican actress Camila Valero, daughter of Stephanie Salas, taking on the titular role. “I’m very excited, I love the character, the project,” Valero shared with the media following the announcement. “There are always nerves when starting a project, especially when working alongside actors with such extensive careers, but I think it’s about finding your place, and luckily, I’ve already been involved in a few projects. I think if this had been my first project ever, I would be dying, but at least I feel a little more comfortable now.”

Valero, granddaughter of Sylvia Pasquel and great-granddaughter of Silvia Pinal, acknowledges the “great responsibility” of upholding her family’s legacy. “But I also believe it’s something that accompanies me and gives me strength,” she stated.

Brandon Peniche Joins as the Leading Man in Juana la Virgen Televisa

Starring opposite Valero is Mexican actor Brandon Peniche, fresh off his leading role in the TelevisaUnivision melodrama Nadie como tú. He will portray the male protagonist in this new iteration of Juana la virgen.

Baeva will play the antagonist, the protagonist’s wife who lives in a carefully constructed bubble of perfection. “It’s a great project, a great story, great production, a great cast, and honestly, a great blessing to end the year working and start the new year working even harder,” Baeva commented. She described her character as someone deeply concerned with outward appearances and maintaining a flawless facade. “She lives in a bubble and believes her life is perfect, and it’s very important to her that her life is perfect, outwardly obviously, which is what she shows a lot because she cares a lot about how people see her and perceive her.”
